Historic Route Between Zarza la Mayor and Alcántara.
The first stop of this journey will be in Zarza la Mayor to see the Dolmen "Pata de Buey" from the Vettones times. we´ll walk through the village and visit the Church of Santiago Apostol and then do a short hike up to the castle of "Peñafiel", reminding us that we did not always get along with our Portuguese neighbors. The car will pick us up on the road and bring us closer to the Roman Bridge of Segura, in the "Erjas" river, being the Portuguese border.
Back into the car, we will go to the small town of Piedras Albas. We will hike to the magical place named "Peña Buraca", a ancient place of worship filled with anthropomorphic tombs. The next stop will slightly before reaching Alcantara to take another short way to the Menhir called "Cabezo".
Back to the car, the next stop is to admire the Roman Bridge of Alcantara. The most armonious. Already in Alcántara, we will make a cultural visit to the many historical sites of the town. In early August we´ll have the oportunity of enjoy the Theater Festival. We will also visit the Interpretation Center of the Tagus International, located in a beautiful manor house, "Casa Natalio".
